With West Ham, Birmingham City and Blackpool all on their way down to the Championship the three respective clubs will all be hoping that Premier League managers and managers from the other top leagues of Europe stay well clear from some of their most prized assets.
Often referred to in the media as vultures by managers such as Ian Holloway of Blackpool, the three clubs will have to try hard to ensure their top stars are happy to compete at the level of the Championship, along with the inevitable wage drop that follows.
Here is our own list of players that are likely to find themselves at the discussion of many Premier League chairmans over the next few weeks…
1. Scott Parker (West Ham) – Probably one of the most under-rated midfielders of recent years, Scott has only just started to receive some of the praise that his displays have warranted. In our opinion he should be desperate to leave the Hammers and aim to play football at a club playing Champions League football next season.
2. Charlie Adam (Blackpool) – He was often linked to a move to Anfield but when Blackpool blocked his move Adam’s head seemed to have dropped for a short period, but throughout the majority of the season his qualities have been more then obvious for all to see, and it seems definite that he will find himself at a new club come the start of the next season.
3. DJ Campbell (Blackpool) – Campbell has proved himself as an out-and-out goalscorer at a club that probably shouldn’t have scored as many goals as they did this season. Blackpool are the highest scoring Premier League team in one season to have still been relegated, such is their attacking power. Campbell only arrived at Blackpool permanently in 2010 having been on loan from Leicester City and he has shown some great goalscoring instincts on a number of occasions. He may still stay with Blackpool in the Championship but you can expect the likes of Norwich, QPR and the other promoted team to be interested in the front man.
A few other players that are bound to attract interest this summer having being relegated to the Championship – Ben Foster and Scott Dann at Birmingham, and David Vaughan and Luke Varney at Blackpool.
