Sir Bobby Charlton has spoken out about Manchester United’s fantastic start to the Premier League season. The club legend has been very impressed with Sir Alex Ferguson’s men after they maintained their winning start at the weekend.
United dished out a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, making it five wins from five games at the start of the new campaign. They now site two points clear at the top of the table and have got many people talking with their exciting young squad.
Speaking about the incredible start – during which United have scored 21 goals – Charlton said: “You never know at the start what’s going to happen but United have got off to a flier.”
“It’s a very unusual start for Manchester United, but it’s fantastic. The fans are enjoying it and even those who are just general football fans because of the way we play. Even the goals we are scoring are dramatic.”
Leading the way for the Red Devils of course has been England striker Wayne Rooney. The 25-year-old has scored nine goals already this campaign including hat-tricks against Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers.
Referring to the main man for the Premier League champions, Charlton continued: “He is a marvellous player. You can tell he’s very happy at the moment and he’ll score a lot more goals this season and beyond.”
That has been the key to Rooney’s success so far this year of course. He is playing with the freedom and confidence that he did at the start of his career with Everton.
Last season was a difficult one for him after he requested to leave the club last summer, but with a new five-year deal in the bag, he is playing some of the best football of his career.
This has now rubbed off on those around him, with Nani and Anderson performing as well as they ever have done for United in the opening five games of the season.
Rooney and co are likely to get a rest tomorrow evening though when Ferguson’s men travel to Leeds United in a fascinating Carling Cup match.
It is though that a lot of the fringe players will be given a go from the start to show the Manchester United boss what they are capable of.
The big boys will return for Saturday’s trip to Stoke though, when once again Sir Bobby Charlton will be watching as United look to keep their excellent winning run going.

The start is great as usually united tend to start quite slow.so cant really complain, however they to open and could quite easily been behind on Saturday v Norwich. They are like Newcastle were in 1996 and we all saw the final out come of that season.if they play like that all year they will not win championship.
