Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is adamant Carlos Tevez will never play for Manchester City again after the striker apparently refused to play in last night’s 2-0 Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich.
Tevez was named as a substitute for the game at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday but appeared to not want to come on when asked to in the second half, something the wantaway forward has denied.
The former Manchester United striker claimed after the game that he hadn’t refused to play, describing it as a “misunderstanding”, however Mancini insisted that his latest indiscretion was the final straw.
“If I have my way he will be out. He’s finished with me.” The Italian said. “If we want to improve as a team Carlos can’t play with us. With me, he is finished.”
He added: He [Tevez] refuses to go in. He refused to come on the pitch. What I said to Carlos is between me, him and the team [but] I am really disappointed because it is Carlos. I decide the changes.
“It’s a bad situation – it’s important for a player to help the team. [The situation] is impossible.”
Tevez lost his place in the starting line-up and was stripped of the captaincy after publicly stating his desire to leave the Etihad Stadium in June , claiming on an Argentinian chat chow that Manchester was “boring” before insisting: “I’m never going back to Manchester”.
The 27-year-old had been linked with moves to Corinthians and Inter Milan over the summer but neither club could afford his wages, believed to be around £200,000 a week.
Edin Dzeko’s substitution appeared to spark the incident with Tevez, and Mancini was left equally as angry with the former Wolfsburg forward after he reacted poorly to be taken off.
Dzeko’s reaction compounded a poor night for City, who came undone thanks to two first half Mario Gomez strikes that left them with 3rd in group A with two games played.
The Bosnian striker shook his head at Mancini when he was substituted ten minutes into the second half, with the former Inter Milan boss turning to Tevez before bringing Nigel De Jong on.
He [Dzeko] was disappointed but he played a bad game,” said Mancini. “It is the last time any player at this club does that.”
Mancini went on to confirm that Dzeko would not play any part in their next Premier league outing against Blackburn on Saturday as punishment for his outburst.
