New Queens Park Rangers signing Shaun Wright-Phillips has spoken about his determination to be successful at his new club, proving some people wrong in the process.
The England winger joined the newly promoted club from big-spending Manchester City on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed fee. He has signed a three-year deal at Loftus Road.
Speaking about making the switch, Wright-Phillips said: “After speaking to the manager Neil Warnock and seeing the direction he thinks the club is going, I wanted to help make it happen.”
“Neil Warnock just told me to be energetic and create goals. I’m very excited to be here. It’s a big club. I just want to get back playing football.”
The 29-year-old has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Manchester City and after Roberto Mancini was once again busy in the transfer market this summer, Wright-Phillips slipped even further down the pecking order.
This meant that the former Chelsea man needed to move on in order to get first-team football. Bolton, Wigan and Stoke showed an interest in securing his signature, but QPR were the club that interested Wright-Phillips most and he can’t wait to get going.
The London born midfielder continued: “There was a bit of toing and froing and making sure the deal was done the way both parties wanted.”
“But I spent most of the day sat down chilling with my dad, my uncle and friends.”
“I want to thank the Eastlands fans for their support and there will always be a blue spot in my heart – they have supported me for ten years of my life.”
Wright-Phillips will join up with former Manchester City team-mate Joey Barton at QPR and he admitted that this should be ‘a good laugh’. Other new signings for the club include Anton Ferdinand, Armand Traore and Luke Young.
After an inconsistent start to their Premier League campaign that has seen QPR secure victory at Everton, but suffer defeats to Bolton and Wigan, Warnock will be hoping his new group of players can help the team push on.
Survival will of course be the number one priority, but there is a feeling around the club after the calibre of new signings that this should be the minimum requirement. It is certainly exciting times for the club.
Wright-Phillips and the rest of the new signings should get the chance to make their debut against Newcastle United on 10th September.

mark
Should be a great signing for us, we’ve been crying out for a right sided winger like this for such a long time, good to see the chairman finally pulling some strings!!
talking sense
I don’t understand – I thought QPR were one of the richest clubs in the world now since they were taken over a while ago??! And yet they sign a wasted, lazy, greedy player???
