Mark Hughes has demanded an improvement from his Queens Park Rangers side after the 1-0 victory over MK Dons in the FA Cup third round replay last night.
Most soccer betting pundits will agree that the League One side were more than a match for Hughes’ men for the majority and even though the home side eventually progressed to the fourth round, Hughes knows his team have to be better in all departments.
Speaking after the match, the Fulham manager said: The desire is there for everyone to see but we can improve.”
“Given the run the team has been on, perhaps there is a lack of confidence in each other.”
“Obviously, they (MK Dons) had a real desire and it was a big night for them. They came here with the right attitude and gave us a real game.”
“But credit to our players. They stuck at it. Everybody here understands the importance of getting a win and we are able to look forward to a good tie against Chelsea.”
“The main thing was to get a win back on the board and that has been a long time coming.”
“Every game we play in now is a big game because of the circumstances we find ourselves in. We have a huge game at the weekend against Wigan, which thankfully we have little bit of time to prepare for now.”
This was the first win of Hughes’ time in charge though, so there is a positive to take from a slightly hard-working performance. He will hope they can constantly improve from here though, starting against Wigan on Saturday.
They certainly need the points in this one. Both teams sit in the bottom three as things stand, with Wigan set to overtake QPR if they can pick up three points on Saturday.
As for MK Dons, their manager Karl Robinson was proud of his players despite the defeat. He said: “I’m proud, but disappointed we didn’t win. We had enough chances, but just never took them.”
“Our players can come away from here feeling very proud and I thought we outplayed them for long periods of the game.”
“We try to play football the right way and think that we’ve proven that over these two games. We’ve shown tonight that we can compete with a very good QPR team.”
Robinson will now hope that his team can take this performance into their next few games as they look to launch a promotion bid from League One.
Looking at QPR again though, it seems fair to say that they will be active in the transfer market over the next couple of weeks. Blackburn defender Chris Samba has already been linked, while they are also thought to be close to the signing of Brazilian striker Henrique.
